Horizon in the Community

Horizon Credit Union is committed to the communities we serve. That commitment guides us as we make our daily decisions. In addition to providing the best products and services available to members, we’re dedicated to supporting charitable, community and civic organizations however we can.

Go.Give.Grow.

One of the ways we serve our community is through our all-company volunteer event, Go.Give.Grow. This is a special day for Horizon employees, leaders and board members to make a meaningful impact in the communities we love by volunteering at local charities. On Go.Give.Grow., the entire credit union halts operations at noon and every single person available goes out to serve and make an impact.

When we started in 2018, we supported 13 non-profits and charities whose missions aligned with our three pillars of corporate stewardship: health, hunger and education. This year we’re partnering with 20 organizations in locations throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. As the credit union grows our positive impact grows with us!

We call Horizon members volunteering in the community Go-Givers. Keep up with the Go-Givers by following Horizon on Facebook or Instagram. Make sure to say hi if you see us out and about!

“Our team members look forward to Go.Give.Grow. every year and really enjoy learning more about our many community partners and the ways they support people experiencing food and housing insecurity” says Kathleen Makena, Horizon’s community engagement manager. “The best part about Go.Give.Grow. is the joy we all experience when we come together to make an impact in our communities by putting the credit union principle of people helping people into action in a big way.”

Volunteer Paid Time Off

Go.Give.Grow. isn’t the only way Horizon cares for its communities though. Employees are given 24 hours of paid time off to volunteer at an organizations of their choosing. That’s three workdays every year! When you multiply that number across hundreds of employees every year, it adds up to make a big difference.

Volunteer paid time off is a unique benefit provided by Horizon and makes a much more direct impact in the community than simple monetary donations (though we often donate as well). Allowing employees to choose where they volunteer ensures that our help and support is going to local people who need it most.

The Credit Union Difference

As you can see, we do things a little differently around here. Volunteering and community engagement are part of what makes our credit union so special! And as a member, you’ll notice some differences from other financial institutions as well.

  • Horizon is member-owned, meaning you have voting rights and the power to shape Horizon’s future.
  • Earnings are paid back to members in the form of competitive savings and interest rates.
  • Our skilled and friendly staff can give you tailored, personalized advice.

So if you’re not a member yet, become a member today! If you are a member, tell your friends about Horizon Credit Union. Every new member helps us make a greater positive impact in the communities we serve. And it’s all because of you.
