Online Imposters
Scammers are constantly working to steal member information. One way they do this is by posing as Horizon Credit Union online and attempting to gather your online banking username and password. Our information security team has tools to detect and alert us when our site is “cloned,” meaning the site – or a page from the site – has been copied. Unfortunately, we have received alerts that scammers have cloned our site in an attempt to steal your username and password.
Below is an example of a real, cloned site detected on Sunday, May 19. When checking the URL (see red arrow), you can see this is not the official web address of Horizon Credit Union.
Horizon employs significant security measures to minimize fraud. However, it’s important to be aware of how to spot and avoid fake sites everywhere on the web. Here are a few tips to ensure you’re always on the correct site:
- Be mindful of unsolicited text messages or emails asking you to log into online banking.
- Before clicking a link, hover over it to see where the URL will take you.
- Type in the URL in your browser’s address bar, rather than clicking on a link in an email.
- Bookmark https://www.hzcu.org for quick, easy and secure access.
- Don’t use a browser to search for the credit union’s online banking URL or phone number.
